Matt's Cool and Interesting Blog of The New Millennium

Wil Wheaton

Well, I wasn't going to update until break, due to the excessive amount of work I have to take care of, but I got distracted and started reading Wil Wheaton's Blog at http://wilwheaton.net.

Who's Wil Wheaton you ask? Well, obviously someone has watched too little Star Trek: The Next Generation. As a child and through his teens he played Ensign Wesley Crusher. Why should you read his blog? Wil says it best:

"I can promise you that I'm not what you expected.

By reading this website, you will get to know the real me, not the space-suited, enterprising young ensign, or the sweet, vulnerable little dead body seeker.

I'm thirty years old. Although I don't always take myself seriously (if I did, I would be in an urn next to River Phoenix by now . . . those people who are the real life inspiration for The Comic Book Guy have been giving me shit for decades), I am politically active and aware. I passionately believe in progressive causes, freedom from religion and government intrusion, and the right to privacy -- on line and in your home.

If you've come here looking for a washed-up, former child actor, I guess you could find that. But if you're willing to look beyond the surface, and challenge your preconceptions, you will get to know me for who I am now: a very happy husband, step-father, and writer."

Anyway, it's a very well written and funny blog. Check it out while I get back to building myself a funeral pyre out of scrap paper in my quest to get through this week.

New color scheme!

I think it looks super sleek.

A Good Fantasy Book

I just picked up a really good fantasy book at the used book sale that comes here every so often. I feel obligated to buy a book every time the book guy comes, and this time I purchased Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny. The only other book I have read by Zelazny was Lord of Light, one of my favorite science fiction books of all time. But anyway, Nine Princes in Amber is a good book, check it out if you're into this sort of thing. The world, Amber, featured in the book is also used as a basis for two Roguelike games, Angband and Zangband. Check those out, too, if you have more free time than me.

Random Game I Like #17: Crimson Plains

This is a shareware game where hordes of monsters run at you and you try to shoot them. The previous sentence actually describes about 50% of video games, but I like Crimson Plains. Try out the demo.

Visible Comment Leaving Things and General Blogeasy Discussion

Lunaboca of Rumination House just left a comment about my "add a comment links". In short, they should be in the bottom right of every post. As you can see, they're not there. But actually, they are. This seems to be a bug of one of two things, either Blogeasy or Internet Explorer. I switched to the web browser Firebird two weeks ago from Internet Explorer and suddenly these links are back. It's not the formatting options for my blog, because, believe me, I tried and tried to get the little buggers to reappear. Does anyone know of a way to fix this. I know others have had the same problem, as they too do not have these links. I'd love more comments and getting them visible would be great.

The second part of this post is to whomever runs Blogeasy. The front page hasen't been updated since August 5th, 2003. No one blogger in the Blogeasy community has heard from you (that I know of anyway). Is this site even being maintained by anyone? It's kind of weird that features have still not been fixed (such as the monthly bandwidth usage counter which seems to have been monitoring my total bandwidth usage since I started this blog up) and not fully realized (believe me, I'm way over my bandwidth limit, not that I mind this at all).

Other things that seem obvious and fairly easy to implement would be to allow other html tags. Italics, bold face, and underlining are nice. I sometimes have points that need to be made and these options would help. Maybe some centering and alignment options, too (Maybe it's the repressed artist in me, but I think all left aligned pictures gives me a balance problem). Anyway, I do appreciate much of the simplicity of blogeasy. Most member blogs don't look like web pages doomed to the sixth circle of Hell (like many blogs on a server known frighteningly as Xanga **NOT KAYLA's**).

Thanks for providing a great service, Blogeasy. And a toast: "To continued improvement!"

I'd like hatemail.

Lot's of websites, such as Maddox and Something Awful, get tons of hate mail. It would be cool if I would get hatemail, too. Sure every now and then I get some comment such as last week's "I don't know what this blog is but it sucks". That's not really that exciting though. If someone sent me an email totally lambasting my blog I'd get really excited. It would be really fun. I'd know that I had made it. Oh well. I suppose I have to wait.

Oh yeah, I'd like fanmail, too. That would be just as cool as hatemail.

Jared Fogle and Matt Around the World

As you can see by how infrequently I'm updating, nothing is happening. I'm bored. As a result I called up my friend Jared Fogle (the Subway Guy) and we went on a world wide publicity tour promoting Matt's Cool and Interesting Blog of the New Millenium. Here are some notable pictures.

Things to Keep up to Date with On the Internet (Other than this blog, of course)

These are websites and blogs that I read regularly (at least weekly)

Homestarrunner -Best flash cartoons on the net!

Maddox -Angriest person on the net!

The Book of Ratings-Best reviews on the net.

Rumination House -Best blog, short stories, and poetry on the net.

It's kind of like juggling.

Keeping three websites almost up to date is madness. I feel like I shouldn't abandon this yet, even though entries are becoming like chores, since my creativity is being stretched between the two incarnations of BAX. Anyway, I'm going to keep doing this. It's fun and well, tradition. Thanks for keeping up with me!
